After using both after effects and nuke a great deal I believe it is time to do a small versus test. I have a great deal of experience with after effects (over 7 years) and about 1 year on and off of trying Nukex. I have got to hand it to the foundry, they really made a great all in one package with nukex. I love the 3d camera tracker although I use boujou. Many major hollywood films that are extremely CGI heavy have been composited using nuke such as Alice in Wonderland. I certainly am enjoying the true 3D cameras and more professional features such as Node Based workflow! Overall nuke is made for super VFX heavy shots and after effects is for motion graphics although after effects can be stretched to do many things. One thing that really bugged me about after effects is that you have to get a TON of plugins to make it a usable program in todays VFX world (I have spent at least 2500$ of after effects plugins). One killer for most freelance VFX guys like myself is that NukeX is 8000$. This is very steep compared to after effects 999$ In conclusion although I really like nuke and its amazing capabilities I think it will take some time for me to fully branch off of my current compositor.
